Abstract. Our contribution aims to capture some aspects of the commemorative celebrations dedicated to the centenary of Avram Iancu’s birth, which took place between August 30 – 2 September 1924. Since autumn 1918, the name of Avram Iancu has been mentioned in various sectors of public expression in connection with the struggle of Transylvanian Romanians for freedom and the idea of Romanian national unity. The festivities of the centenary of the birth of Avram Iancu took the form of a large-scale “national holiday,” comparable in scale to other celebration moments organized after the Great Union, as were the coronation of kings Ferdinand and Maria in Alba Iulia in 1922 or the anniversary of a decade since the Great Union in 1929. The celebrations dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Avram Iancu began in Baia de Criș and Țebea, they continued at Câmpeni, Găina Mountain and Vidra and ended in Cluj. The centenary celebrations of 1924 were a favorable framework through which the figure of Avram Iancu consolidates his fundamental identity reference status for the entire Romanian nation, the peaceful prefect becoming a hero of all Romanians.
