Abstract
A crossroads event in the evolution of modern Romanian society, the Revolution of 1848–1849 represents a chapter of broad significance and lessons for military history. The armed resistance of the Romanians from Transylvania, which had as its nucleus the perimeter of the Apuseni Mountains (Western Carpathians), was not only the climaxing moment of the events of the mid-19th century, but in terms of the analysis of the concrete battles carried out for ten months by the peasant army led by Avram Iancu and his tribunes, a specific model of pursuing war in the mountains is highlighted, the efficiency of which should be emphasized. It is also the objective of this paper, which is based on the numerous documents and testimonies published, mainly by Romanian historians, as well as a rich and varied bibliography, Romanian and foreign.
