The Romanians of Timok and World War I

Abstract

In this article, the author focuses on the political and cultural life of the Romanians from the Timok Valley and the impact that the outbreak of World War I had on the Romanian community. In addition, the article focuses on the relationship between Romanians and Serbs during the world conflict. The conclusion reached by the author is that the Romanians from Eastern Serbia have participated in all military actions initiated by the Serbs, a fact for which they were compensated with medals and military honors. Based on historical documents, the author notices that the Romanian civil population had to suffer during the Bulgarian occupation, being subjected to several hostility actions of the temporary occupying force.
